Making a Difference... Ensuring Success

Merriam Webster's Dictionary defines the word Barter as "to trade by exchanging one commodity for another".

Wikepedia states that Barter is a type of trade that doesn't use any medium of exchange, in which goods or services are exchanged for other goods and/or services. It can be bilateral or multilateral as trade.

In new and developing businesses, the use of a bartering system that creates a win-win situation for the parties involved is great. However, what happens when we use the barter system and the exchange is somewhat lopsided - where one party gets a greater benefit, than the other?

I never have a problem bartering, since I'm always trying to help others. The problem I run into is the fact that payment for my product does not come to me, but goes to our corporate office; then I receive a check from them for my commission. But I can always offer a rebate in the form of a "Gift Card", or I'll buy your product or service from my commission.

The last experience I had, I sent a client to a mortgage broker who was supposed to refinance their loan, and then send her back to me so that I could put her on our MMA Program. He'd get the commission for the loan, I'd get the commission for the software, and she's win by paying off her 30-year mortgage in 1/2 to 1/3 of the time.

Well he refinanced (2) of my clients, but did not instruct them to return to me. He didn't even give me the courtesy to tell me when their loan closed. Which left me chasing them again. He was also a U1st agent, so all he had to do is encourage them to update their analysys. I'm sure everyone would have won.

Ps. I do collaborate with Mortgage lenders, Real Estate, and Insurance professionals, even financial planners. Our product can help them get back into the doors of their past clients, help them, and get more referrals.

Anyway, that was my experience.

In the fashion and beauty industry we barter a lot. We actually call it TFP (TRADE FOR PICS) What happens with this is we work with other professionals in the industry in order to build each others portfolio. So as a makeup artist I may work with a photographer on a shoot and in return for my time and work he or she will supply me a photo to add to my portfolio. Its the best way to work when you are starting out or just want to work for fun. Please feel free to visit my website and see my work have a great day
